He’s Done It!!!!

Matt Rutherford is the first person to solo, nonstop circumnavigate both North America & South America! He sailed over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel at 10:48 EST this morning, crossing his original track and completing his challenge!

Matt’s plan is still to make his first landfall this Saturday the 21st of April at noon in Annapolis. Anyone and everyone is invited to help welcome him home.

Congratulations to Matt!

We have these high resolution photos of Matt just before the finish line thanks to Mark Duehmig. They’re quite large images, so give them a chance to load.

Good to ‘see’ you back home safe and sound.

  4. Congratulations from another part of the world! It is a great achievement and I will happily announce it through my blog to Lithuanian readers, too.

    Happy docking and best wishes!

  5. Attention all! Please remember as we all share Matt’s extraordinary achivements that, we all need to send a message to friends and worldwide “Please Give Donations” The crew of Godspeed was pleased to announce a $21,000 matching grant for all donations made to Matt’s Challenge for CRAB, until May 31, 2012. So please pass this along to friends and family to continue this type of extraordinary achivements.

  6. Welcome back! I can only imagine what it would be like to be on land after such an extended period out at sea. Thank you for documenting all of it, it has been an excellent read that has had me on the edge of my seat in the past month since I learned of your blog.

Get some rest, and surround yourself with loved ones.

  7. St Brendan is moving again! A little faster and straighter than the last few days. Looking forward to seeing it in Annapolis on Saturday.

My son learned to sail many years ago from Brendan Sailing in Annapolis – an organization that teaches the learning disabled the joys of sailing. It was a life changing experience for him, and sailing has remained a large part in his life. With Matt’s support, CRAB sailing is reaching the physically challenged. St Brendan must be looking down on his heritage on the seas with profound joy.

Fair winds and following seas on your next adventure! I can’t wait!

  8. I just noticed that the “Matt’s Challenge” fund-raising picture still only shows $68.8k. SURELY, that’s because they haven’t updated it at C.R.A.B.???? i hope. SURELY, with Godspeed’s recent Matching Funds offer there should have been an onslaught of donations…. RIGHT? If not…. COME ON PEOPLE! This is a HUGE F***ing ACCOMPLISHMENT THAT MATT HAS DONE. OPEN THE WALLETS A LITTLE, EH?

  9. TSCTV will cover Matt’s triumphant return to Annapolis City Dock on Saturday April 21 at 12 Noon. We will post a Video News Release on Monday. Congratulations Matt!
