Nice Youtube video.
Great to see you bobbing on your little boat out on the open sea. I am a reader, never before a poster. Your journey has captivated so many of us. You are making an extraordinary life, an incredible journey and money for a great cause.
All who are fascinated by the worlds’ great explorers will soon know your name. I keep my own little sailboat up the bay from your home port of Annapolis. I will be on the dock, if it is not already filled with your friends, to great you.
Happy Sails,
Steve
Incredible video…it is one thing to read about the small size of the sailboat, but quite another to see that little boat, bobbing & swaying in ocean swells in a stiff breeze. Even seeing Matt on the boat for comparison makes it look even smaller. Incredible..
Let me be the 3rd person to comment on your “little” boat. 27 feet has never looked so small! The best to you, Matt.
I sailed a number of times on two-masted schooners out of Camden Maine
on the Penobscot Bay. One time we were in a 45knot gale at night being pushed
toward a shoreline. It was a bit frighting, but the schooner was 100feet long
and much more ship than your 27footer. I feel for you when ever I read your
blog. I live 20 minutes from Annapolis and hope to be around when you come
in. Hang in there—
What is that contraption on the stern? A rudder extender? Windvane?
He looked clean shaved – I was surprised.

Hey guys, Matt is sailing straight to Barbardos.
Does he want to change Keira Knightly by Rihanna? LoL !

Dear Matt,
You are the Sea-Going McGuyver of the World!! I’d never have bet on you being able to repair all the major problems that ALMOST disrupted your voyage. I’m so happy the rescue mission was successful and that you are happily sailing along toward the home stretch.
George Hall and I received a request from Shelf Reliance today for a short video or audio from you telling us how you survived on Thrive Foods for the duration of your record-breaking ocean adventure. The second weekend in April is a major Shelf Reliance Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah. You and your charity would have center stage through your description of your sailing/adapting/surviving experiences and Shelf Reliance would also benefit from your comments and experience with the Thrive Foods that were donated for your trip. I’m so thrilled that you are realizing your dreams by completing this great sea-going experience. If you could be a part of the S.R. Convention (albeit in abstentia), you could be such a motivator for all our hard-working Consultants who want to be able to help those who have need of our products. You are our HERO SURVIVOR. Your feedback would be very interesting and encouraging for all of us.
Awaiting your arrival in Annapolis,
Karol Harlan
Karol,
I hope that it works out that Matt can do an interview/video for you to have at your Shelf Reliance Convention. Matt would not have been able to complete this voyage without Shelf Reliance meals to feed and nourish him.
I am wondering if you have thought about asking Matt for a blood sample and urine sample as soon as possible when he makes landfall. I think it would be very helpful to collect this data since Matt has survived almost entirely on Shelf Reliance meals since mid-June of 2011.
Again, thanks…and I hope to meet you in Annapolis!
Marlowe
Stolen from John Masefield with one notable exception:
I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a SMALL BOAT and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea’s face, and a grey dawn breaking.
I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.
I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull’s way and the whale’s way, where the wind’s like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.
